How To Diet To Stop The Trend Of Kids Getting More Overweight Each Year, Learn How To Help Them Diet

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, our children are becoming heavier, and they are doing so at a younger age. Weights among kids have steadily increased for the past 30 years and there is every indication that the trend is not ending.

Why is this happening? There are a variety of causes, such as:

• Diet: We, and our children, are on-the-go as never before. As a result, we're eating more convenience foods, which are typically high in calories, sugars, fat, and sodium.

• Sedentary lifestyle: In the face of increasing need, we are exercising less. TV, video games, and the computer are the primary pastime of youngsters.

• Heredity: Obesity itself is not inherited. However, if the parents are overweight, it is likely the child will be overweight also. Further, parents are living the same hectic life as their kids and falling into the same high calorie, low exercise routine.

• Pregnancy difficulties: Children of mothers who gained excessive weight during pregnancy, or had diabetes, tend to have higher birth weight and more lifetime weight issues.

Childhood obesity carries with it increased incidence of depression, learning disorders, diabetes, asthma, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, and liver conditions. Further, obese children as more likely to be obese adults as well and subject to "adult" diseases associated with obesity: heart disease, hypertension, stroke, diabetes, some cancers, and arthritis and joint disease.

So, what can be done? How can you help your child lose weight?

Each child is an individual and should be evaluated by the doctor to ensure that there are no underlying conditions contributing to excessive weight. However, for all children, there are certain principles which can be safely implemented.

1. Provide healthful foods for meals and snacks. Keep chunks of fruit, vegetables, chunks of low fat cheese, skim milk, whole wheat breads and crackers readily available.

2. Discard snacks that are high fat and high calorie. If the snacks are not available, the kids can't eat them.

3. Teach your child the basics of good nutrition. Tell them what is bad (saturated fat, high sodium, high calorie, excessive sugar), and what is good (fruits, vegetables, whole wheat, milk).

4. Choose "restaurant style" (bring the plate to the table) instead of "family style" (platters and bowls on the table).

5. Throw out sugar-sweetened beverages (soda, tea, energy drinks, sports drinks). Some of our kids are consuming half their recommended daily calories in pop! (Ask your doctor how many calories your child should have each day for his or her particular growth pattern).

If You're Wondering "How Can Kids Lose Weight?" Then You'll Learn What You Need Here

A lot of parents are searching the internet because they want to know how can kids lose weight. The phrase "overweight children" are two words that should never be used in conjunction, but the fact of the matter is that there are many children dealing with the problem of obesity.

This problem is putting them at risk of contracting cardiovascular diseases, it is causing them to have low self-esteem pushing them to drastic measures in school, and being overweight as a child could lead to irreversible consequences when they reach adulthood.

Childhood obesity is something that is rising in America when it should be disappearing. It really is a big question because why are so many children gaining weight? There are just so many children in this country alone who are struggling on a daily basis, and I can most definitely give you some reasons as to why this is happening.

A lot of parents don't exercise their ability to discipline their children when it comes to saying "no" when their child wants to eat nothing but fast foods knowing that these foods are always high in fat, they have a lot of sugar in them, and of course they are unhealthy calorie-wise for their kids.

Parents indulge their children and give them unhealthy drinks all the time, and of course a lot of parents aren't getting their children involved in exercise. Another reason why children are becoming so obese is because they thoughtlessly eat, and they're eating is just out of control.

A lot of children spend a lot of their time on the TV, on their computer, and they spend a lot of their time playing video games which is why they are living such sedentary lifestyles. Children need to be educated at a young age for why eating healthy is such an important habit they need to acquire.

If children knew that the kinds of food they are eating are making them gain weight, of course they would want to stop eating these foods, especially those children who are in high school and want to enjoy themselves.

There are a lot of things that children suffer from due to their weight problems such as skin issues, self-esteem issues, they have problems building relationships, and they have issues being more social because of their weight. The fact of the matter is that the foods you eat are either going to help you lose weight or gain weight.

You need to have your child staying away from foods that are always greasy, salty, and loaded with unhealthy additives. You should focus on eating meals that are high in protein, low in carbs, have good fats like omega-3, have fruits in them, have vegetables in them, and make sure that you have your child taking vitamins in addition to following a healthy diet. So if you're wondering "how can kids lose weight?" now you know.

Why Are Kids Fat? It's Up To YOU To Learn How To Stop The Trend - Teach Your Kids How To Diet

WHO: Our kids.

WHAT: They're fat.

WHY: The vast majority of adults are overweight and obese. Who would the kids learn weight management from?

The Centers for Disease Control has stated that pediatric obesity has reached epidemic proportions in a mere thirty years. In 1980, five percent of kids were obese. In 2010, slightly less than twenty percent are obese.

Whatever is going on? There are certain medical conditions and medications that may contribute to weight gain. However, these are rare instances. Our kids, like adults, are overweight because they are eating too much and exercising too little.

Childhood obesity is diagnosed by a physician or other health care provider by using tools such as the BMI (body mass index). This is a test to determine body fat in proportion to height, gender, and age. The health care provider may also measure skin-fold-thickness, waist-to-hip ratio, and water weight.

Childhood obesity must be taken seriously. We've been lulled into complacency by cute little phrases like "baby fat", "cherubic", "pudgy", "big-boned", "more to love", and so on. The fact is, there is nothing cute or harmless about fat kids. Their physical and emotional well-being are at peril. Let's look at a few of the risks we're unwittingly allowing them to take:

- Diabetes.

- Heart disease.

- High blood pressure.

- Stroke.

- Asthma.

- Sleep disorders.

- Fatty liver.

- GERD.

- Joint disorders.

- Depression.

- Low self-esteem.

- Behavior disorders

- Becoming obese adults.

How do we "fix" this problem? How do we help our kids achieve a normal weight? Obese children have far different food needs than do adults. They are "moving targets" in that they are growing and need nutrition to support that growth while at the same time losing excess fat.

The "bottom line" treatment of childhood obesity requires a change in lifestyle. Rather than "going on a diet", our kids need to learn how to eat "rightly": the right foods at the right times and in the right amounts. What does "right" eating look like?

- More fruits and vegetables.

- Reduced fat dairy products.

- Three "small" meals per day with healthful snacks in between.

- Whole grain breads, cereals, and pastas.

- Lean cuts of meat (substitute beans twice weekly).

- Eliminate drinks that are sweetened with sugar.

- Reduce portion sizes. (Dish up the right amount into a plate at the stove or countertop. No bowls and platters on the table. Your child likely won't even notice the difference.)

- No eating while watching TV or using the computer. When your child eats, he should eat! Nothing else.

- Help you child become more active. Walk with him; play outside with him; pay him to do chores; sign him up for sports; send him outside to play after school.

Childhood obesity is making our kids sick. Let's take back control!

What Can We Leave Our Kids? Money? How About A Legacy Of Good Health: Learn How To Lose Weight Now

We all want to leave something for our kids. Most of us don't have an abundance of worldly possessions to pass on, but even if we do, what if the children are not in the best of health to enjoy whatever it is we give them? How about this for a legacy to leave for them: "I remember Mom...she taught me how to eat properly." "I'm grateful to Dad for teaching me how to stay fit."

The increasing rate of obesity during the times in which we live is largely a result of a misunderstanding, or complete lack of knowledge, about how we can eat in a way that is both satisfying and healthful. We have bad eating habits folks...and worse, we are passing them along, unfiltered, to our kids.

Let's look at a few ways you can pass useful information about weight management along to the next generation:

Do not place undue emphasis on your child's weight. This puts him or her at risk of developing an eating disorder. Instead, focus on the correct way to eat for health.

Make healthy snacks readily available for your child to munch on. When he comes home from school and opens the refrigerator, let him see fruit and vegetable chunks, reduced fat cheeses, and lean cuts of meat. Remember, in the home he can only eat the food you provide. If he's eating foods that are bad for him, you gave them to him. (This is not intended to send you on a guilt trip...it's just a reality check.)

Educate yourself, and then your children, on the basics of good nutrition. If he understands the differences between various food items, he will be more likely to take ownership of his food choices.

Make changes gradually. If your child is used to triple chocolate chip cookies drizzled with white chocolate when he comes home from school, surprise him with strawberries dipped in chocolate.

Don't use food as a reward for anything...ever. We seem to have lost an understanding of what food is all about. The food we eat is needed for fuel, energy, and nourishment for our bodies. If we "fuel, energize, and nourish" our bodies with two, or even three, times the amount of food we need, the "overkill" will be stored as fat.

Change from family-style dinners (bowls and platters on the table) to restaurant style where plates of food are dished up at the stove and counter and brought to the table. Learn correct portion sizes so your child gets accustomed to how much he should be eating.

Your older children will be making choices out of the home. You have less control over these decisions, but you are not powerless. If your child understands the correct way, amount, and time to eat, he will eventually learn to make good choices about what he eats.

Sue Bristol, R.N. advises how to teach your child the proper diet.

One Of Three Children Is Overweight! And YOU Must Learn What To Do About It - I'll Teach You How

Government statistics tell us that at least one out of every three children in the United States today is overweight. That is astonishing and very alarming! Obesity is deadly wherever it occurs... children or adults. Your child desperately needs your help. Guiding him or her to effective weight management is a gift you can give that will last a lifetime.

The good news is this: it's really not as difficult to lose weight and to maintain that loss as we've been led to believe. For most people struggling with weight issues, the problem has been one of misinformation. We don't have the proper tools for weight loss available to us for two reasons: First, we live in a capitalistic society. Many entrepreneurs (and just regular folks) are trying to make a living by supporting certain products. When the product sells, they make a bit of money. That's not a bad thing... most sellers don't intend to give you misleading information. It's simply a fact that contrived diets are really hard to maintain.

Secondly, it takes some time to test a product. After a few years, most "diets" are found to be ineffective and they are replaced by newer and better methods. This is why fad diets are called fad diets. They're popular for a bit, we find out they don't work, and then we toss them out the window and we are in hot pursuit of something better.

Well, there's some really good news for you and for your children. There is a simple and straight-forward way to lose weight and keep it off and that is... (drumroll please)... to change your eating habits!

- We don't need to eat grapefruit or eggs or oatmeal or bananas or any other food item to the exclusion of others.
- We don't need to eliminate entire food groups.
- We don't need programs, pills, or potions.
- We simply need to eat in the way our bodies are designed to eat and to consume the foods that were designed to feed us!

It's that simple and it works for anyone... adult, child, either sex.

Here are six tips to get you started in weight loss:

1. Begin today to reduce, by at least one-third, everything that goes into your mouth. If you're eating out, request a take-home box to be brought at the same time your food is delivered. Cut it into halves... eat half and box half. You'll enjoy it tomorrow.

(Most restaurant wait-staff will happily do that for you if you ask).

2. Throw out all beverages that have been sweetened by sugar. You don't need "empty calories" (that is, they offer nothing of any value... they only add calories).

3. Stop placing bowls and platters on the table, "family-style". Rather, dish the plates up at the stove or countertop. No second helpings either. You will have plenty of food on your plate.

4. Eat slowly. It takes 20 to 30 minutes for the brain to register fullness. If you eat too fast, you will be consuming more food than you need to be satisfied.

5. Learn to read labels on food items. How many calories are you buying into with that single cookie? Is it worth it? When you look for calories on the label, check how many servings are supposed to be in that one item. You might be surprised. The calorie count is for each serving... not the whole cookie.

6. Incorporate at least modest exercise into your life. Walking is an excellent way to burn calories. Use stairs rather than the elevator whenever you can. Think motion! Move around your home or workplace whenever you can. Use the restroom on another floor and take the stairs to get there. Don't stay in the same position for more than 2 hours at a time. Your metabolism slows and your joints get stiff.

Eating the natural way will become a habit for you and your children. You can get that weight off and you can keep it off!

One of three kids is overweight! That's almost unbelievable. Responsible parents want the solution.
My e-book will lead you through the way to make it work for you and your overweight child.

How To Lose Weight For Fat Kids - Learn The 7 Problems Which Cause Kids To Be Fat - How To Diet

There are many problems with the very idea of childhood obesity: increased risk of other diseases, low self-esteem, depression, high likelihood of becoming obese adults to name a few.

The trend of childhood obesity is going in exactly the wrong direction...it's getting worse, rather than better and there is no hope on the horizon for a solution any time soon. Why has this happened? Why are our kids struggling with something that has historically been an "adult" disease? There are seven major factors which seem to contribute to the epidemic of childhood obesity:

1. Excessive consumption of "fast foods" which are typically high in fat, sugar, sodium, and calories.

2. Sugar sweetened drinks.

3. Lack of exercise.

4. "Mindless eating" habits.

5. TV, computer, video games...creates a two-fold problem. They are not exercising during screen time, and, they are most likely "munching" (mindless eating of high calorie foods).

6. Healthful foods and snacks are not available.

7. Lack of knowledge.

Of all of these reasons, number seven is probably the most significant. With proper understanding of the relationship between the kinds of food they eat and weight gain, our children would have at least some motivation to eat in a more healthful manner. For instance, kids suffer with weight problems, skin problems, esteem problems, relationship problems, learning problems...many of these issues could be eliminated, or at least helped, by the intake of proper foods in proper amounts.

The food that we eat is the material with which our bodies make new cells. Think of a building project: For the first house, you start with broken bricks, warped wood, cracked wire, broken pipes. For the second house, your building materials are strong, straight, unworn, and new. Which of these sets of materials do you think is going to produce the best finished product?

This same comparison can be made when considering the food we eat and the finished product. In one case, the food is greasy, salty, loaded with sugar and additives, and low in vitamins and minerals. Isn't it reasonable that the result of combining these "faulty materials" will be an inferior product?

On the other hand, start with a diet balanced with protein, carbohydrates, "good" fat, ample vitamins and minerals, and low in fat, salt, and sugar. Don't you suppose that the end product will be a stronger, healthier, better looking specimen?

Our kids don't get that connection in part because many parents don't either. As the significant adults in our children's lives, let us strive to understand, and take ownership of, what poor foods are doing to our bodies and those of our children.
